The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Wednesday that the agency does not yet have the full picture of this event and is not able to conduct a full risk assessment.
The WHO asked for timely, complete and transparent information sharing from Russia to clarify conflicting reports. Darya Shipilova, 28, an employee at the anti-plague research institute in the eastern city of Irkutsk, died two days after falling ill with cold-like symptoms. The Russian authorities deny a connection with the institute and say she died from “pneumonia of an unknown aetiology”.
