Conflict and drought are increasing the risk of famine across Sudan’s Darfur and Kordofan regions, warned the global food crisis monitor (IPC), which says food insecurity, acute malnutrition and excess mortality will likely intensify.

In May, nearly 19.5 million people, more than 40% of the population, were facing high levels of acute food insecurity, according to the Associated Press, which also reports a severe El Niño-linked drought affecting more than half of Sudan, causing localized crop failures.
