President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, September 30, $200 billion in South Korean energy investments in the United States, including $54 billion toward a long-discussed liquefied natural gas project in Alaska, according to Le Monde, in a report with Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The package includes eight new nuclear plants and a large natural gas-fired plant in Texas supported by the South Korean government, the newspaper said. The investments follow a July 2025 trade deal under which Seoul had agreed to invest $350 billion in the United States and boost its purchases of American energy; the deal set 15 percent tariffs on South Korean goods.
