About 200 people who came into contact with the dead researcher have been quarantined, and parts of the hospital in Shelekhov where she died have been cordoned off.

Igor Kobzev, the governor of Irkutsk, said she died of “pneumonia of unknown aetiology” and that no new cases have been identified among institute staff. Russia's public health authority Rospotrebnadzor said two commissions investigating biosafety procedures at the institute found no evidence of an accident involving pathogenic microorganisms, according to DW, citing TASS.
