The Government of Canada officially listed the new West Coast oil pipeline, now known as Pacific Link, as a project of national interest, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced.

According to the government, the project will allow Canada to export an additional one million barrels a day to growing markets in Asia, reducing its dependence on the United States. Al Jazeera described Pacific Link as the pipeline Canada intends to fast track to diversify its economy away from the US.
