The United States has announced the withdrawal of its forces from Iraq, 23 years after the invasion that overthrew Saddam Hussein, according to Middle East Eye.

US forces are set to complete their withdrawal from their last military bases in Iraq by September 30, ending more than two decades of US military involvement, according to Deutsche Welle (DW), in a text published by Newscord. Iraq’s prime minister, Ali al-Zaidi, said October 1 will be a new day in the course of the Iraqi state, with the country free of any foreign military presence and the completion of national sovereignty over its territory.
