Airstrikes and artillery fire hit the Tigray region, in northern Ethiopia, overnight into Monday, in clashes between the federal government and rebels, according to aid sources cited by Reuters, in a text republished by The Hindu.

Airstrikes killed at least 17 people northwest of Mekelle, Tigray's capital taken by federal forces over the weekend, according to a bulletin circulated among humanitarian groups. On Monday morning, Ethiopian military and Tigrayan forces exchanged heavy artillery fire near the Tekeze River, close to the town of Mai Tsebri, according to the same bulletin.
