The Alternative for Germany (AfD) won the speaker post in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament, the first far-right party to take the role since World War II, according to AFP.
The party took nearly 44 percent of the vote in the state last month, and its candidate, Tobias Rausch, won 48 votes, with 29 against and five abstentions.
