Israel’s Supreme Court advised Balad party leader Sami Abu Shehadeh to withdraw from the October 27 Knesset election, warning that it could otherwise issue a ruling disqualifying him, according to Al Jazeera.

Court President Yitzhak Amit said a majority of the judges favoured disqualifying his candidacy and gave him until Friday to withdraw, according to the broadcaster. Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara backed disqualification over an article Abu Shehadeh published a day after October 7, which she said expressed support for armed struggle. Abu Shehadeh withdrew from the race after the Court indicated unanimity for disqualification, according to the Middle East Eye.
