The United Kingdom announced it is closing its consulate in occupied East Jerusalem and downgrading the building to the status of a mission.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said the UK does not accept that the Government of Israel has the legal right to close the consulate and that it will try to rebuild its diplomatic presence in East Jerusalem. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the British consulate is ending its operations today and the sign has been removed.
