Flávio Bolsonaro won 47% of the vote in the first round of Brazil’s presidential election and heads to an October 25 runoff ahead of incumbent president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who got 44.2%, according to The Guardian.
Lula’s administration reduced deforestation in the Amazon by almost 50%, but the success secured little electoral traction for pro-forest candidates in the same vote.
