The US-led coalition ended its more than decade-long mission in Iraq on Wednesday, a mission that began in 2014 when the Islamic State seized large territories in Iraq and Syria, according to Middle East Eye.
The final contingent was of roughly 1,500 troops at Erbil Air Base, down from about 2,500 personnel across Iraq before the withdrawal. The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said Iraqi Kurdistan has endured more than a thousand drone and ballistic missile attacks since 28 February, when Israel and the US launched the war on Iran. The prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, said the threat is real and that the Kurds are vulnerable and under attack.
