French police arrested around 5,000 people since Monday, most of them teenagers, and about 400 high schools — roughly one in 10 — were closed on Friday due to the unrest, according to Reuters.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed nearly 5,000 arrests by early October, with 1,949 people detained on Thursday alone and another 1,747 on Friday, according to the Tehran Times.
