Israel marks on Wednesday the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, weeks before a general election and after a ceasefire in Gaza last year, according to France24.

The attack killed 1,221 people, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) tally based on official Israeli figures. Israel’s military offensive in response left most of Gaza in ruins and killed more than 74,200 people, according to Gaza’s health ministry. Since the ceasefire, Israeli forces have killed more than 1,430 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s health ministry.
