Germany's federal prosecutor's office said that former BND president August Hanning was arrested on Tuesday on espionage allegations, according to The Guardian.

Hanning served as president of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) from December 1998 to November 2005. A former aide, identified only as Manfred D., was also arrested the same day. According to Deutsche Welle, current findings suggest that Manfred D. provided Hanning with approximately 2,000 documents, many of them containing classified information.
