A cyberattack raised the temperature of refrigerators and freezers at hundreds of supermarkets in France to as high as 50°C, causing fires and spoiling food, according to The Hindu.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said on Monday (October 12, 2026) that a “large-scale” attack was affecting connected refrigerators at several major food retailers across the country, leading to food losses and fires. According to Al Jazeera, shelves were left empty across France, as hackers remotely raised temperatures and forced hundreds of stores to discard food.
