French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu promised a comprehensive government response at the end of October and rejected accusations of a police crackdown, as students press for more resources, building repairs and additional teachers.

More than 6,000 people have been taken into police custody in recent weeks and hundreds of schools have closed, most of them minors with no previous criminal records. The Ministry of National Education said that 224 schools were completely closed and 151 were partially reopening, based on projected figures.
