French security forces detained more than 600 people on Wednesday, while dozens of police officers and gendarmes were wounded in the escalation of protests, which included high school blockades, according to the interior minister, in an AFP text republished by the Hindustan Times.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said 625 people were detained in the blockades, pointed to an “expansion of the movement” and condemned an “escalation of violence” outside certain schools.
