Brazil’s public prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit against the Brazilian subsidiary of oil company Shell, blaming it for the torrential rains that hit southern Brazil in 2024, according to Le Monde.

The accusation attributes to Shell 2% of historical global greenhouse gas emissions linked to the exploration, production and marketing of fossil fuels, according to Le Monde. The prosecutor’s office is seeking 270 million reais for environmental and climate moral damages, plus the same amount for material damages, according to Le Monde.
