Ethiopian federal forces and pro-government fighters recaptured the main airport in Mekelle, the capital of the northern Tigray region, with rebels seen leaving the city, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters and AFP in a text published by Al Jazeera.

The airport is about 10 km from the centre of Mekelle and was one of three airfields seized by the rebels at the start of the fighting, on September 23. Al Jazeera notes that it could not independently confirm the reports, with media access heavily restricted in Ethiopia and significant communications blackouts.
