Prosecutors in the United States (US) have accused Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, of conspiracy to commit torture, in charges made public on Thursday.

The fresh charges are in addition to the drug-trafficking and weapons charges already brought against them, which they have denied, and relate to the alleged torture of US citizens held in Venezuela while Maduro was in power, according to the BBC.
