The co-pilot of the Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv attacked the pilot with a cabin crash axe and attempted to take control of the aircraft, according to the United Arab Emirates’ prosecutor general.

The plane, carrying more than 170 people, plunged 17,000ft (5,200m) two and a half hours into its journey. The prosecutor general said the co-pilot “attempted to carry out a terrorist attack”.
