A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck southern Panama on Friday at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), which downgraded an earlier estimate of magnitude 8.0.

About 4.6 million people felt moderate to severe shaking, with the epicenter about 10 km from Pitaloza Arriba and shallow aftershocks, according to the BBC. The United States National Weather Service (NWS) issued tsunami warnings for Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, and Chile also issued a naval warning, according to Al Jazeera.
