US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will cut the number of positions reserved for generals and admirals in the Army, Navy and Air Force by 20 percent, a Pentagon official told Al Jazeera.

The cut covers about 800 posts and is due to be completed by Jan. 1, according to the Los Angeles Times.
