Blasts were heard overnight in Addis Ababa, hours after the Ethiopian capital instituted a ban on drone-flying in the city and surrounding areas, three diplomatic sources told Reuters.
A source linked to the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival told Al Jazeera the alliance had carried out several drone strikes in the capital, including some targeting the military’s headquarters. On the ground, government forces advanced from Amhara deep into Tigray, reaching within about 40 kilometres (25 miles) of Mekelle, according to Al Jazeera’s Muhammed Taha Tawakel, reporting from Afar on Wednesday.
