A Ukrainian man accused of helping to mastermind the attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines went on trial for war crimes in Germany on Wednesday, with his defence calling for the case to be dismissed, according to the South China Morning Post.
The first hearing took place at the Higher Regional Court in Hamburg, according to TASS. The German Federal Prosecutor's Office says the suspect and his accomplices, also service members, acted on orders from Ukrainian government agencies.
