State lawmakers in Saxony-Anhalt are voting to elect Germany’s first far-right statehouse speaker since 1945, according to The New York Times.
The 83-seat legislature elects the speaker, a post that traditionally goes to the largest party, and the AfD won its best regional result and is in a strong position to form Germany’s first far-right regional government since World War II, according to The Hindu.
