Pakistani authorities imposed on Sunday a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, under two constitutional security articles, effectively suspending the provincial government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a move the prime minister's cabinet justified by the provincial government's “deliberate disengagement from the fight against terrorism”, according to Al Jazeera.
The measures were approved under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, with an 11-member technocratic council and Fakhr Alam named chief secretary of the province, according to Dawn.
