The mayor of Kadena Town in Okinawa Prefecture visited the Japanese Defense Ministry's Okinawa Defense Bureau on Monday to protest the planned storage of the US Typhon mid-range missile system at Kadena Air Base, China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported.

According to Japan's Defense Ministry, the US Army will temporarily store the Typhon system and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) at Kadena Air Base on Okinawa starting in mid-October. The Typhon system includes launchers, missiles and a battery operations center and can fire both SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles.
