The Trump administration declined to invite observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to the 2026 midterm elections, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW) — the first time since 2002, when the organization began observing US federal elections.

The OSCE called the decision regrettable and not in line with US commitments; Senator Jeanne Shaheen called the refusal unprecedented.
