Armed Israeli settlers beat AFP photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh on Tuesday, aged 58, leaving him requiring hospital treatment as he covered ongoing settler violence against West Bank olive farmers, according to AFP.

Ashtiyeh suffered bruises to his head and torso and was taken by ambulance to a hospital; the attackers also took his camera equipment. The violence took place despite the presence of at least a dozen Israeli soldiers around 500 metres away, according to photographer John Wessels, who was also threatened with a firearm. AFP’s global news management condemned the attack and demanded a full investigation.
