The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy said a second supertanker carrying crude oil exploded and caught fire in its engine room after striking a sea mine in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
The ship had all navigation systems switched off and was on an unauthorized route, according to the IRGC. The IRGC also said that three tankers that violated transit rules in the strait have struck mines and caught fire since yesterday and that vessels with navigation and identification systems turned off will be classified as hostile, with severe punishment, according to TASS.
