Eight countries, one bill: Europe’s wave without an owner
On October 24, 2026, France’s Interior Ministry counted 410,000 demonstrators and the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) nearly 800,000; Italy put paratroopers around Milan’s Duomo and Albania answered with rubber bullets. The mobilisations share no command, and what ties them together is the same bill — rent, wages, schools and pensions — answered in each country with a police perimeter, preventive detention and, in Italy, a soldier on the street.
