Venezuelan authorities released a significant number of political prisoners from several detention centres in the early hours of Saturday, according to Foro Penal.

Among those released was Wilder Vasquez, handed a five-year sentence in 2018 over claims he was plotting to kill former President Nicolás Maduro. The releases came days after the country's interim leader met US President Donald Trump in New York, according to the BBC.
