Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called at the UN General Assembly for broader representation for Asia, Africa and Latin America and backed the candidatures of Brazil and India for a permanent seat on the Security Council, according to The Hindu.

Lavrov said Russia cannot envisage or allow any new “Western seats,” because the West is already overrepresented, and that the interests of the African continent must be satisfied, according to TASS. He spoke at the General Assembly session in New York on Saturday night, according to the Indian Express.
