More than 55,000 Sudanese refugees have fled to Chad this year, with arrivals through the border areas of Adre and Tine rising to 400 people a day, about 20 times the daily rate of previous months, according to the United Nations (UN) refugee agency (UNHCR), cited by Al Jazeera.

The UN says it has received only 20 percent of the $1.6 billion needed for the response, a gap of $1.28 billion, Al Jazeera reports.
