The meeting between the German and Russian foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly is believed to be the first of its kind since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to PBS.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called on Russia to abandon its “dangerous path of escalation” with Germany, Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the talks with Sergei Lavrov. After the meeting, Lavrov said that “nothing new came from” the conversation.
