More than 230 million eligible voters can vote on Tuesday in the United States, in elections that decide who will represent them in Congress for the last two years of Donald Trump’s term. All 435 House seats and 35 of the Senate’s 100 seats are being contested, along with the governorships of 36 states; Republicans currently hold both chambers.
More than 57 million early votes were cast before Election Day, and the first polling sites opened at 6 a.m. Eastern in Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, New York and Virginia. The rising cost of living is top of mind for voters, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found, which had a margin of error of 3 percentage points for registered voters.
