A BBC investigation found evidence that Sudanese paramilitary fighters systematically destroyed el-Fasher's healthcare system during the long siege and the subsequent takeover of the city in Darfur a year ago.

The broadcaster documented at least 43 attacks on hospitals and healthcare sites between May 2024 and October 2025, some of them hitting the same target more than once.
