Egypt’s Parliament authorized the military on Monday to provide support to help defend Saudi Arabia, if requested, according to Reuters, citing parliamentarians and local media.

The decision responds to intensified attacks by Yemen’s Iran-allied Houthis on the Gulf kingdom. Parliament gave President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi the green light to take the steps necessary to defend Saudi Arabia, according to Bloomberg.
