New rules announced earlier in October by Syria's education ministry restrict certain courses at the two new defense and security colleges exclusively to men, and almost all of them at the security university, according to DW.

The colleges are the National University of Defense Sciences and the Syrian University for Security Sciences. The decision has caused controversy inside and outside the country.
