Police in Paris arrested 855 people during Saturday’s protests, a record for a single event, according to The Guardian.

The city’s mayor, Emmanuel Gregoire, said whole streets in the capital were devastated. In Limoges, central France, the town hall was largely lost to a fire set by masked protesters, the top regional official told the AFP news agency.
