Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) approved on Friday (16 October) new rules to identify WhatsApp channels linked to electoral campaigns, amid the legal dispute over the Exército do Lula channel, which has more than four million followers, and complaints of possible political favoritism on Meta’s platforms.

Unanimously, the resolution sets out six criteria for establishing a link, requires channels that meet them to be registered with the Electoral Justice and makes campaigns and administrators responsible for the legality of their posts.
