President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s campaign has asked the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to disqualify challenger Flávio Bolsonaro ahead of the final round of the presidential election on Sunday, over alleged interference by social media company Meta, according to the BBC.
A report led by the UN special rapporteur on freedom of expression cited temporary interruptions of one candidate’s campaign account, differences in audience engagement, reach and view counts, and restrictions on that campaign’s Instagram posts. Meta denied treating the sides unequally and said it would comply with a Brazilian court order to treat Bolsonaro and Lula equally.
