Novaya Gazeta’s editor-in-chief, Sergei Sokolov, announced in a video published on Friday that the newspaper is ceasing to exist, saying that Russian authorities and special services forced the newsroom to end its work, The Guardian reported.

Also according to The Guardian, Sokolov was taken in for questioning this month and Russian authorities searched his home in a criminal case involving a colleague, journalist Oleg Roldugin, who was arrested in April.
