Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Prime Minister Unal Ustel said after meeting UN envoy María Ángela Holguín that the search for an agreement on the basis of a federation came to an end at Crans-Montana in 2017.
He said UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ visit to Cyprus on July 27–29, 2026 had demonstrated the absence of common ground for launching formal negotiations, because there are two separate peoples and states on the island, and called on the international community, particularly the United Nations, to acknowledge the reality of two states.
