The Navy of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that a supertanker carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil exploded and caught fire after striking a naval mine south of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, the vessel had switched off all its radar and navigation systems and was attempting to exit through the unauthorized southern route of the strait despite warnings from Iranian naval forces. Dawn reported that two tankers were set ablaze and brought to a halt south of the Strait of Hormuz after hitting Iranian mines, according to an IRGC Navy statement shared by state media on Tuesday.
