China has brought the world’s largest 60-megawatt liquid air energy storage demonstration project online in Golmud City, northwest China’s Qinghai Province, according to CGTN.
The system uses an ultra-cold process at minus 194 degrees Celsius to turn surplus electricity into liquid air for storage. According to the broadcaster, the project can absorb 600,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy daily and deliver about 180 million kWh of electricity annually.
