US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) posted on X on Tuesday, Election Day, that anyone who votes illegally will be found, tracked, arrested and prosecuted, and that there will be no escape.

Non-citizens, including legal permanent residents, cannot vote in federal, state and most local elections, according to the US government’s official page with election rules. The Supreme Court denied a request from the Trump administration to set aside contested votes in California until voters’ citizenship could be verified, without detailing its reasons. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 50,925 immigrants were detained by ICE in August 2026 alone, a record for the Republican administration.
