Christine Lagarde will step down from the presidency of the European Central Bank (ECB) on February 7, 2027, a date she communicated to the institution's Governing Council and to European Council President António Costa.
Lagarde said she had decided to step down eight months before her term was due to expire so that she could speak more freely on issues beyond monetary policy, according to Reuters.
